How this tool changes learning in a way that isn't possible without technology
Students will create a Mind Map to discuss the possible benefits of Cup Stacking in relation to a healthy lifestyle.
Students will work in Groups of 3 when creating the Mind Maps. These Mind Maps will be updated at the end of the unit to see if students have learned new benefits while learning about and experiencing Cup Stacking.
Mindomo
This tool allows for easily created mind maps that are flexible and adaptable to what students' needs are. It also lets a teacher keep a digital copy of the maps to use in future lessons. This will be different than having students create hard copy mind maps.
Throughout the unit the students will have a reflection time at the end of each lesson. Again in groups of 3 the students will keep a daily log of what they gained from the lesson. After the unit is complete, the students will have a book about what they learned and accomplished throughout the 2 week unit. This book can be shared at events such as Open Houses or PE Nights at school. They will also be used by the teacher to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of the lesson.
Students are able to make and share journals or books that can be shared without having to make hard copies. This tool also allows for student collaboration and future editing. Lastly, this tool leaves a digital copy for teachers and students to reflect upon. This would take the place of having a journal for each student and having them write in them each day.
Students will collect data about what their best time for completing the 3-6-3 Cup Stacking Pattern is each day. They will use this data to create a graph that will show their improvement throughout the unit. The graphs will be displayed and the students can use them to set new goals. These graphs can be updated throughout the school year when Cup Stacking is revisited as an activity.
Kids' Zone Create a Graph
Teachers always love when students can bring academics into the classroom and this graphing tool does a great job of adding data collection and math skills to a PE lesson. Students can easily create visually appealing graphs that can be sent by e-mails and can also be printed. This will replace students having to hand draw graphics on paper.
Students will create a personalized Lego avatar. This avatar will be used as their identifier on the books and graphs that they create. This will serve primarily as a motivator and something fun for the students to do.
Reasonably Clever
This creative tool gives students the ability to have some fun and to use some computer skills at the same time. It also will be used as a motivational tool when students are creating documents like the ones above. The created avatar can be added to any document or computer file to personalize it for the student. This would replace students' hand drawing avatars and allow the less skilled to still have a great looking image.
